Fraker is right for Land Bank

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Lynne Fraker’s candidacy for Tisbury representative on the Land Bank Commission.

In her contributions to discussions in town meeting and at board of selectmen meetings that I have observed, Lynne has demonstrated her wide and deep knowledge of issues relating to Tisbury’s waterways and her commitment to maintaining our town’s environment. She has a record of effective participation in Tisbury’s decisionmaking process concerning its waterways. She is not afraid to speak up.

Lynne will advocate and model clear ongoing communication with the public regarding the commission’s proposals and decisions. Conversely, she will transmit clearly Tisbury’s interests and concerns to the commission.

In the past, I feel that some opportunities have been lost because of a too-narrow interpretation of the Land Bank’s mission as it relates to the specific conditions in our town. Lynne is committed to a clear and open discussion of how to strike the right balance, in the use of

Land Bank funds and Land Bank lands, between the needs of the human public and the needs of other species and the environment.

Ultimately, human well-being depends on a healthy environment and ecosystem. Lynne understands this. As Tisbury’s representative on the Land Bank Commission she will work to ensure a sustainable Land Bank.
