To the Editor:

We would like to thank both the Chilmark board of health and board of selectmen for helping us move forward on our plastic bottle bylaw. Thank you to the board of health for taking the time to meet with us (twice), and thank you to the board of selectmen for adding our bylaw to the town warrant. We have been learning so much throughout this process. We look forward to meeting with the public to discuss any issues on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the West Tisbury library.

  1. it would be helpful if you had given the readers here some information about this bill. Perhaps another letter to the editor with some details ?

  2. The first (of many) public forum to discuss this bylaw is Thursday, Jan. 24th at 4:30pm at the WT Library. The kids from Plastic Free MV have the bylaw on the warrant for Chilmark and West Tisbury – AQ will be decided tonight at the BOS meeting. In summary – the bylaw is asking for a limit on sales and distribution of water and soda bottles in single use plastic under 34oz. It would not go into effect until Jan. 2020. This would give them time to work on getting more water refill stations. For more info they are on Facebook: Plastic Free MV. Thanks.
