Edgartown has chosen a Boston-based firm to be the owner’s project manager for its new fire station, a project that was supported by Edgartown voters last year.

The town’s select board unanimously selected CHA Consulting during a Monday afternoon meeting.

Town administrator James Hagerty said CHA was determined to be the “best fit” by the town’s fire station building committee. “They know the Island; it makes the most sense,” he said.

CHA is the owner’s project manager for the ongoing Tisbury School renovation project and the planned overhaul of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.

Last year, Edgartown voters overwhelmingly approved the approximately $21 million fire station rebuild during the annual town meeting and subsequent town election. A 2019 feasibility study found a number of deficiencies with the current station, such as lack of space.

In other news, Edgartown is expected to open Atlantic Drive by April 15.

The road was severely damaged by the storms that hit the Island in December and January. Hagerty said there is still needed dredging work for the beach, piles of sands still need to be moved, and beachgrass needs to be planted to shore up the beach. The additional work is expected to cost $187,000.

The town will be requesting approval to use $1.2 million toward beach repairs, which are estimated to cost over $2 million in total, during the upcoming annual town meeting.

Hagerty also said the town is in the process of submitting additional information to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency that the agencies requested regarding the town’s reimbursement request for beach repairs.
