After a coastal storm caused street flooding and ferry cancellations on Friday, Martha’s Vineyard woke up to a fresh coating of snow Saturday morning just in time for the Christmas holiday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Dukes County through Sunday at 1 pm. “Periods of heavy ocean effect snow into Sunday morning,” the alert states. “Total snow accumulations 5 to 10 inches through Sunday morning. Amounts will vary considerably over short distances.”
The alert warns that untreated roads will be slippery and that winds will gust up to 45 mph limiting visibility to about a quarter mile with blowing and drifting snow.
