On Sunday, March 24, at 3:30 pm, the West Tisbury library will host a talk with local author Jacquie Renear and illustrator Emily Keith. According to a press release, Renear and Keith will present their newly released children’s book, “My Sister and I: A Story of Two Sisters Growing Up on Martha’s Vineyard.” Books will be available for purchase and signing, and refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Jacquie Renear grew up in Connecticut and received a degree in early childhood education. She has always been fascinated by the curiosity, truth, and love of children. When Renear was a young child, her grandparents retired to Martha’s Vineyard, and her family came every summer. After teaching a few years in Connecticut, she came back to the Island to take a teaching job and met and married a “true Islander,” Dixon Renear. They raised two daughters, Beth and Meg, and enjoyed watching the girls as they discovered and delighted in the beauty of this Island. It brought about the words, thoughts, and ideas of “My Sister and I.” Renear was the first kindergarten teacher at the West Tisbury School, and she helped design the classroom for the new school.
